A vehicle category does not establish a passenger allowance or who can drive. Check the actual model and operator’s requirements.
The basic vehicle difference
In general, a side-by-side buggy uses a steering wheel and pedals with seated occupants. A quad bike, or ATV, typically uses handlebars and a straddle-style seat. Polaris describes these as key differences between the categories.
On small screens, scroll the table to compare every column.
| Compare | Side-by-side buggy | Quad bike / ATV |
|---|---|---|
| Controls | Steering wheel and pedals | Handlebars and ATV controls |
| Seating format | Individual or bench-style seats, depending on model | Straddle-style seat |
| Passengers | Two seats per buggy — confirm driver requirements | Do not assume a passenger is permitted |
| Quote comparison | Check whether price is per buggy | Check whether price is per bike or participant |

Compare the outing as well as the vehicle
Ask whether the quote covers the same amount of riding time, the same riding area and the same transport arrangement. A short activity added to another tour is different from an outing built around driving.
Do not choose from engine size or images alone. Ask about the briefing, supervision and participant requirements for the vehicle you will actually use.
Explain how your group wants to participate
Tell the team who wants to drive and who wants to ride as a passenger. Confirm whether participants can be accommodated together and whether separate vehicles are needed. Avoid treating a guest count as an automatic seating reservation.
What you can price on this website
The buggy calculator covers the four listed buggy ranges, their ride durations, transfers and the listed add-ons. It does not establish a comparable quad-bike quote. Request quad availability, duration, inclusions and pricing separately before making a like-for-like comparison.
